Day 1. Welcome to Iceland!
Upon arrival in Reykjavik, pick up your rental car and start your Iceland experience! From Keflavik International Airport we recommend driving the southern coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula towards your first overnight stay in the charming village of Hveragerdi. The village is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area, and because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs, it is often called the flower village. Depending on your arrival time, you may also want to visit the renowned Blue Lagoon, to relax in the geothermal water. Overnight in Hveragerdi.

Day 2. Thingvellir - Gullfoss - Geysir - the South Coast
Today’s highlights include Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site and place of great geological and historical interest); as well as the spectacular Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir Hot Spring area. Drive along the South Shore, viewing such highlights as the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss Waterfalls, the black sand beaches around Vik, and Myrdalsjokull Glacier. Overnight in Vik.

Drive through the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, and explore Skaftafell National Park, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajokull Glacier, surrounded by black desert sands. Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and onwards to the charming harbor town Hofn, known as the lobster capital of northern Europe. Overnight in Hofn.

Check In - Hofn Hotel Edda
Hotel Edda Hofn is located by the harbour in Hofn in Hornafjordur. Feel the sheer force of nature alongside Europe’s largest glacier – the 8,100 km2 (5,200 square miles) expanse of Vatnajokull, which covers 8% of Iceland. Next to it is the smaller Skálafellsjokull glacier: climb it, hike it, drive upon it! The nearby Skaftafell National Park is a must-see, as well as Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, the spectacular setting for the James Bond movie Die Another Day.
Day 4. Hofn - Djupivogur - Reydarfjordur - Egilsstadir
After breakfast, we suggest you drive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages. On the way you have the option of taking a boat tour to Papey Island where thousands of puffins nest in the summer, or to visit Petra's famous collection of local stones and minerals at Stodvarfjordur (both are optional and at an added expense). Overnight in the Eastern Fjords.

Travel across the Modrudalsoraefi Highlands, renowned for their stark, untouched beauty, towards Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall. Visit the magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon, Asbyrgi. Drive onwards to Tjornes Peninsula and the friendly Husavik fishing port. Overnight in the Myvatn area.

Day 6. Myvatn - Akureyri/Skagafjordur
Explore and enjoy highlights of the Lake Myvatn area, including the mystical volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard, and the Krafla volcanic area. From there, drive to Godafoss Waterfall, Akureyri (the capital of the north), or the Skagafjordur area. Overnight in Northwestern Iceland.

Conveniently located in the center of Skagafjördur in Northern Iceland, Hofsstadir Guesthouse offers 14 peaceful rooms for your Icelandic adventures. All rooms have private bathrooms with showers, wooden floors, blackout drapes, tea/coffee facilities, and a porch of your own with two chairs and a table. A breakfast buffet is served daily while dinner is served from April to October. Reserve a tour and wake up call at the front desk. Day 7. Varmahlid - Reykholt - Borgarnes - Hvalfjordur - Reykjavik
Drive through the historical region of Skagafjordur, renowned for horse breeding. You have an option to visit the old farmstead at Glaumbaer, a great example of historical Icelandic architecture. Continue to the bay of Hunafloi and across Holtavorduheidi plateau, enter Borgarfjordur area. Return to Reykjavik in the evening.
Another option is to travel across the barren Kjolur Highland Road (4WD needed; track is open starting mid-June), to the geothermal oasis at Hveravellir, before driving to Reykjavik. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 8. Depart Iceland
Your Ring Road adventure comes to an end today. At the appropriate time, return to Keflavik International Airport to return your rental car*; or, if you’ve already returned your car, return to the airport by shuttle transfer.
